Waterfront Bliss at Aruba Bay

For one of our family vacations, we decided to hit the road for a coastal adventure to North Padre Island, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint! We booked our stay at Aruba Bay Waterfront Resort through Padre Island Escapes, a short-term vacation rental company that I’ve used multiple times. Every experience with them has been fantastic, and this trip was no exception.

The vacation rental we stayed in was great—a true waterfront getaway. The townhouse featured amazing water views, a spacious open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area, plus a private patio perfect for soaking in the salty air. One of the best parts? The direct access to the shared dock and boat slips—ideal for fishing and boating trips. Watching the sunset over the water from our deck was pure magic.

Exploring North Padre Island

One of the highlights of our trip was renting a golf cart and cruising down to the beach. There’s something special about feeling the ocean breeze while listening to Bob Marley with my parents comfortably enjoying the ride. Watching the sun dip below the horizon, with the waves rolling in, is now one of my favorite family memories—one of those moments you know you’ll cherish forever.

If you’re looking for a laid-back, beachy escape, North Padre Island is the perfect spot. Whether you want to relax by the shore, cast a fishing line, or take a leisurely drive along the sand, there’s something for everyone.

A Must-Try Local Gem: Nom’s Kitchen

No trip is complete without great food, and if you love Thai cuisine, you have to check out Nom’s Kitchen. Every single dish we ordered was delicious—seriously, not a single miss. The owners were incredibly welcoming, making the experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I’m in the area!

Pro Tips for Visiting North Padre Island

1. Avoid peak holiday weekends – The beach can get extremely crowded, so if you want a more peaceful experience, visit during non-holiday periods.

2. Best times to go – My favorite seasons are fall or early spring. In spring, you might even catch a few warm days that feel like summer, perfect for a quick dip in the ocean.

3. Swimming vs. Fishing – I personally come to North Padre Island for fishing, not necessarily swimming. Texas beaches may not have the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, but they have their own charm—especially if you love casting a line and relaxing by the shore. That’s why I always pick a resort like Aruba Bay, which has heated pools if I want to swim.

4. Embrace the coastal vibes – There’s something incredibly relaxing about sitting by the water, listening to the waves, and breathing in the salty air. Even if you’re not a big beach swimmer, just being near the ocean has a way of recharging the soul.

Final Thoughts: A Perfect Weekend Getaway

If you’re looking for an easy, last-minute weekend trip from Central Texas, North Padre Island is totally doable. It’s a refreshing escape with beautiful waterfront views, great fishing, and a relaxed beach town vibe. Just remember to avoid major holidays, and you’re golden!

So, pack your bags, grab your fishing gear (or beach towel), and get ready to make some unforgettable memories!

Whether you’re into fishing, surfing, or just relaxing by the waves, North Padre Island is a must-visit!
